Now lovely mums, let’s have a look, how milk helps our little kiddies grow stronger and taller as well as healthier.

Milkis a really a wholesome food that we all should include in our daily diet regimen. It is a best source of nutritional goodness, so, let’s see start looking at its nutritional values. It contains a following minerals which are very crucial for leading a normal healthy life.

Calcium: Calcium is the basic building block for having strong and healthy bones. It regulates growth in height, not only this it also plays an important role in proper functioning of muscles, digestive system and our nerves.

Potassium: Helps maintaining normal blood pressure, nerve and muscle functions.

Phosphorus: Phosphorus is also a basic and important nutrient for healthy bone and teeth and not only this, it is also responsible for regulating normal Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) of our child.

Iodine: Milk is also good for getting iodine which is responsible for regulating thyroid hormones which regulates out vital body functions like breathing, nerve function, heart rate, muscle strength, body weight and energy metabolism and much much more.

Vitamins: Milk is a good source of Vitamin B like Riboflavin which is responsible for release of energy from the food we consume, it is also important for our healthy blood cells, immunity and  eye sight. Vitamin D is very important for maintaining health and strength of bones and also helps in proper absorption of calcium. Hence, Vitamin D is very important for Bones health and its density in order to live a healthy life and avoid fractures in case of falls and accidents.

Source of Calcium apart from milk: Dairy products like yogurt, milk shake, cheese and butter. Other than dairy products, good source of calcium are Soya beans, Soya milk, nuts, tofu, broccoli, cabbage and other leafy greens and calcium fortified flour and bread.

  2. I totally agree with you on this, milk is very important for our Kids. One of my kid doent like drinking milk but she loves yorghut,I also cook our veggies with some milk it comes out so well!

    • Hi Mercy, You are absolutely right, some kids don’t like milk and in that case we can offer them other dairy products, smoothies and milkshakes of their favorite flavor.

  4. Do you feel like milk has to be animal milk or do you get some of the same benefits from nut milks? I do know that women are supposed to breastfeed basically as long as possible; milk from humans is the ultimate food.

    • Hi Penelope, thank you so much for your comment. Milk is very important for the normal growth and development of our kids. When we talk about nut milk, it is good as it doesn’t contain much calories and cholesterol but the most important pint is that nut milk doesn’t contain enough calcium as compared to animal milk.

Hey Sarah, I think most of us understand the health benefits milk provides for kids to grow stronger bones due to the high calcium levels however I was unaware how many other benefits milk comprises of regarding the high levels of additional minerals and vitamins. It’s by far the most healthy and natural energy drink going.
    I remember at primary school, My friends and I used to do the kids milk round in a morning where we all consumed half a pint of milk. Do they still supply milk to primary schools? I hope they do after reading your enlightening article. Happy days!

  7. You know I never really saw milk as being that important. I mean I knew it is good for the kids for bones. But boy, it really does have so much more. Do you know if Lactaid milk has everything that regular milk has? My son is lactose intolerant, so I buy Lactaid milk for him. thanks!
